The California Language Teachers Association sponsored a free community
event at a major downtown shopping center that could be recreated anywhere
at any time. The event included numerous speakers -- students,
parents, business and civic leaders and representatives from ACTFL -- who
spoke of the benefits of and need for language study. Additionally,
there was cultural entertainment for the audience and there were donated
prizes and many brochures and displays to provide additional information.

This free community event featured performances by local students
representing both heritage language and cultural groups as well as second
language learners. There were poetry readings, vocal and
instrumental music, and dance. A dramatic performance was scheduled
as well.
